Your Daily Prayer For Healing-01/11/2013

Dear Goddess, Today’s prayer is a tribute to my friend, Samantha West, and her cat, Selkie, and  Wizard Dog named Gandolf.

Selkie came down with an incurable kidney disease this week, and had to be put down.

Samantha would often talk about Selkie. Selkie was a very old cat, and while Gandolf is a wizard dog, Selkie was a Zen master cat, or shall we say mistress.

In Samantha’s words: “Selkie was a gentle cat of enormous presence like a zen monk.  I loved her
energy and being with her. She filled a room as Gandalf does. Same kind of energy

I got her from the Human Society. She was a very affectionate cat. Where ever I was, if I stopped or sat down,  she would come and sit beside me and begin a very loud purr.  If I was working on a project on the table sewing or  making jewelry, she sat beside me. This was true no matter how long it took.

A companionable cat.

If I or anyone else said her name she would meow several times. She was a chatty Cat with a raspy voice and would carry on lengthy meows and chirps to let you know how she was feeling.

She slept by my head while asleep at night. Whenever I got up to go to the bathroom she would begin
that deep purr and again when I returned. She liked to sleep on the table but even if she appeared to be asleep when I passed her she would purr.

I got  her as a kitten when I had William (another wizard dog, like Gandalf), and after his passing she stayed very close  when I was grieving.

I took both she and Gandalf with me every time I went to Philadelphia or Bear Cottage to visit our family.”

Dogs and Cats. Cats and Dogs. They are best friends to us and each other and will always be.

They make us realize the joy rooted firmly in our ability to love them, and love the quiet moments when they rest their whiskered Presence in our heart.
