Kate Loving Shenk

Dear God/ess, We took Ulysses to his Beloved Riffle today. The only way to get there is by canoe, and the way Ulysses gets there is by swimming behind the canoe. Naturally, we had some hesitation and wondered if he was up to such a strenuous swim.

After going to the Grotto yesterday, Ulysses spent much of the morning begging us to meditate, and most of the afternoon begging to take him to the riffle.

Uly goes into a Zone at the riffle. The Free Zone. He barely relates to the humans around him. He snaps at the river bubbles, he plunges to the river bottom and emerges with a rock or a stone.

Watching him propels all of us in his sphere directly to the Free Zone with him. The beautiful crystal rainbows bouncing off the river surface, the fast  flowing water and tiny fishes darting spontaneously, makes all of us feel as joyous as Ulysses feels.

And we return with the promise to go back to the riffle often. Ulysses swims with the current as we wind our way back to the farm.

Now he sleeps. And I watch him breathe. What a simple pleasure.
